Frustrated by the lack of functional, appropriately-sized bags available for children, sisters Susan Givens and Carol Mack teamed up to create Dabbawalla Bags. Inspired by the functional simplicity of European design, the launch product line is sized specifically for pre-school and early elementary school children. You’ll find no cartoon characters or action figures, no utilitarian oversized styles that mimic adult packs – just simple, colorful designs that kids of all ages can relate to.
The name Dabbawalla was inspired by Susan’s travels in India where she was fascinated with the complex system of lunch box delivery men known as dabbawallas.
Our mission at Dabbawalla Bags is simple: design fun, functional bags that appeal to both kids and adults while promoting social responsibility. Our bags are crafted by sewers who earn fair wages in safe working conditions, and we do business with companies who support this commitment.
Fundraising with Dabbawalla
At Dabbawalla, we know how difficult it can be to raise much-needed funds for schools and other social services that support families in need. If you are a registered non-profit organization, Dabbawalla Bags can help contribute in two ways:
Community donations
Dabbawalla Bags is proud to help support charitable events around the globe. We donate lunch bags and backpacks to qualified organizations as auction items or gifts of appreciation for their commitment to improving the lives of children. Please email your request including proof of your 501(c)(3) status, along with details of your organization and your event. All requests are reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Although we would like to support every worthwhile cause, due to the volume of requests and our limited budget, it is not possible to fulfill every request.
Fundraising program
As part of our mission to support children’s programs, Dabbawalla Bags also partners with schools and other charitable organizations to raise funds through direct sales of its bags. Please contact us for complete details of the fundraising program.
